Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a hypothetical AI. It can learn and apply intelligence to a wide variety of topics, like a human. The aim to build a software which can perform tasks that it is not be trained for.
Artificial Intelligence vs AGI
Traditional AI were designed to help human simplify a complex actions and solve complex problems. They were trained in specific area for solving specific problem. They are also termed as weak AI or narrow AI due to their narrow visibility.
AGI is a hypothetical software which can do tasks with little or no knowledge about it. It brings human intelligence like ability to learn and apply knowledge for a real time situation. It is also termed as a strong AI solution.
Potential Impacts and benefits
- Healthcare: Make accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans.
- Problem Solving: Solve larger enterprise problems
- Robotics: Perform human like activities
Way Forward
There is a lot research being done currently to explore this possibility. Current system is using narrow AI to solve wide variety for tasks. System like self driven car shows glimpse of AGI possibility. They are not true AGI as inability to transfer knowledge and apply common sense.
This is currently a long term research goal.
